Unit Overview

Warigami features a unique dual-control system that separates units into two distinct categories:

🎯 Directly Selectable Units

These units can be selected and commanded directly through mouse clicks and control groups. They form the strategic backbone of your origami empire.

  • Prime - Central hero unit
  • Pupils - Basic unit producers
  • Proteges - Advanced producers
  • Workers - Resource gatherers

⚔️ Combat Units (Non-Selectable)

These units are controlled exclusively through the Playbook Projector building, emphasizing strategic command over micromanagement.

  • Pikeman - Melee infantry
  • Pelter - Ranged attackers
  • Patcher - Support healers
  • Prowler - Mobile vehicles
  • Plaguebearers - Magical units
  • Proxies - Flying swarms

Directly Selectable Units

These units form the core of your economic and strategic operations. You can select them individually or in groups, assign them to platoons, and issue direct commands.

Prime - Master of the Fold

👑

Prime

Central Hero Unit
Role: Hero & Master Folder
Victory Condition: Losing Prime = Defeat
Unique Ability: Can fold all units & buildings

Description

The Prime is your most important unit - the central hero and master of the ancient folding arts. Only the Prime can initially create all types of units and buildings through the mystical Fold mechanic.

Key Abilities

  • Universal Folding: Can fold any unit or building type
  • Combat Capable: Can move, attack, and defend
  • Army Growth: Controls the pace of early game expansion
  • Victory Condition: Must be protected at all costs

Strategic Notes

💡

Early Game Focus: Use Prime to fold initial Pupils and workers to establish economy

⚠️

Protection Priority: Never risk Prime in dangerous situations - losing it means defeat

🎯

Tactical Positioning: Keep Prime near your base but accessible for emergency folding

Pupils - Basic Unit Producers

🎓

Pupils

Basic Unit Producers
Role: Unit Production & Light Combat
Folding Capability: Basic & Mid-tier units only
Special Mechanic: Can be "posted" for auto-production

Description

Pupils are apprentice folders who can produce basic and mid-tier units. They serve dual roles as both unit producers and light combat forces, making them versatile additions to your army.

Posting Mechanic

  • Auto-Production: When posted, continuously fold assigned units
  • Resource Dependency: Production continues while Paper resources are available
  • Immobile While Posted: Cannot move but can still receive override commands
  • Command Override: Defend, Attack, or Hide commands override auto-folding

Strategic Applications

🏭

Production Lines: Post multiple Pupils for different unit types to create specialized production

⚔️

Defensive Posting: Position posted Pupils near defenses for protected production

🔄

Flexible Commands: Use command overrides during emergencies without losing posting

Proteges - Advanced Unit Producers

🎖️

Proteges

Advanced Unit Producers
Role: Advanced Production & Mid-tier Combat
Folding Capability: Mid to high-tier units & buildings
Research Requirement: Unlocked through Patternworks

Description

Proteges are master folders who can create advanced units and buildings. Like Pupils, they can be posted for auto-production, but they have access to much more powerful folding patterns.

Advanced Capabilities

  • High-Tier Units: Can fold powerful combat and specialized units
  • Building Construction: Capable of folding buildings once researched
  • Strategic Expansion: Essential for base expansion and army diversification
  • Enhanced Combat: Stronger in battle than basic Pupils

Research Dependencies

Patternworks Advanced Unit Patterns
Pencilcore Press Building Folding Capability
🚀

Late Game Power: Proteges become increasingly valuable as more patterns unlock

🏗️

Base Expansion: Use Proteges to fold new buildings in forward positions

Workers - Resource Management Specialists

Workers form the economic backbone of your origami empire. Each type specializes in specific resource operations with intelligent AI behavior.

📄

Paper Pickers

Specialization: Harvest Paper from regenerating Paper Pylons

Behavior: Intelligent auto-pathing between pylons and storage

Visual Cue: Carry visible stacks of paper while transporting

⛏️

Prospectors

Specialization: Mine Plumbum from finite Plumbum Pits

Behavior: Same intelligent systems as Paper Pickers

Strategic Note: Limited resource - use efficiently

📦

Paper Pushers

Specialization: Transport resources to Pupils and Proteges

Behavior: Auto-distribute resources for folding operations

Critical Role: Enable continuous unit production

Worker Command System

All workers respond to strategic command overrides that modify their behavior:

Auto-Harvest Default behavior - automatically gather and transport resources
Defend Priority on defending area, secondary resource gathering
Attack Participate in combat operations, suspend resource work
Hide Disable auto-behavior, take shelter in buildings

Combat Units - Playbook Projector Controlled

Combat units cannot be selected individually. Instead, they are commanded through the innovative Playbook Projector building system, which issues group-level tactical orders.

⚠️

Important: These units are completely non-selectable. All combat control happens through the Playbook Projector building interface.

🗡️

Pikeman

Basic Melee

Role: Frontline infantry with solid melee damage

Strength: Effective against early ground units

Weakness: Vulnerable to ranged attacks

Tactical Use: Form defensive lines and assault formations

🏹

Pelter

Basic Ranged

Role: Ranged attackers firing paper darts

Strength: Safe damage from distance

Weakness: Fragile in close combat

Tactical Use: Support formations and area denial

🔧

Patcher

Support & Repair

Role: Heals and repairs nearby units

Strength: Sustains army during prolonged fights

Weakness: Limited combat ability

Tactical Use: Essential for sustained operations

🚗

Prowler

Medium Vehicle

Role: Fast, durable mobile unit

Strength: High mobility and moderate durability

Weakness: Higher resource cost

Tactical Use: Scouting, flanking, harassment

💀

Plaguebearer

Magic Ranged

Role: Applies debuffs and curses to enemies

Strength: Disrupts enemy formations and abilities

Weakness: Requires advanced resources

Tactical Use: Crowd control and formation breaking

🦋

Proxies & Proxie Plopper

Flying Swarm

Role: Small flying units that operate in swarms

Carrier System: Proxie Plopper deploys up to 6-10 Proxies

Strength: Overwhelming numbers, air superiority

Weakness: Individual units are fragile

Tactical Use: Swarm attacks, area control

Unit Interactions & Synergies
